Summer School

Summer School has evolved into a variety of learning opportunities that occur over the summer months.  The educational programming has expanded beyond the traditional courses for credits.  There are now many different options to keep students’ brains engaged and growing.


Summer Credit Programs

Summer School On-Line (July)

  • A variety of high school course available to students in grade 9-12
    • HWDSB Summer School
    • HBSB Summer School

Summer Reach Ahead (July)

  • Grade 8 students transitioning to High School can complete their compulsory Civics (half credit) course and/or their compulsory Careers (half credit) course on-line
    • HWDSB Reach Ahead Programs

Summer Non-Credit Programs

Grade 9 Orientation Program (August)

  • Grade 8 students can participate in an orientation program at the HWDSB Secondary School they’ll attend in the fall
    • HWDSB Grade 9 Orientation Program

Summer SKILL BUILDER Program (July/August)

  • Students in grades 6-12 can participate in a variety of 1-week literacy/math skill builder sessions
    • HWDSB Summer Skill Builder Programs

Summer ESL Literacy Program (July)

  • ESL Students in grades 6-12 can participate in a 4-week literacy skills strengthen program
    • HWDSB ESL Literacy Program
